Nitrides

Nitrides are compounds of nitrogen with an oxidation state of 3-. Nitrides can generally be grouped into three classes: ionic, interstitial, or covalent. Ionic Nitrides consist of the alkali nitride Lithium Nitride and alkaline nitrides that form with the formula M3N2, such as Barium Nitride, Ba3N2. The largest group of nitrides, interstitial, form with transition metals and have useful properties such as high melting points, extreme hardness, and high conductivity. The properties of covalent nitrides depends on the element the nitrogen is bonded with. Lorad manufactures all of its nitrides in batch quantities.
