Zirconia-Hafnia -yttria Stabilized

The introduction of Hafnium oxide into an yttria stabilized zirconia lattice demonstrates the effect of introducing disorder, (phonon scattering) and its influence in reducing thermal conductivity. This reduces the thermal conductivity by approximately 36% compared to 8YSZ. Such materials may find application as thermal barrier coatings. These materials are custom synthesized as very fine sinter-active powders.
