This material has applications for x-ray and gamma ray radiation detectors and sensors, photovoltaics, electro-conductive optics, and infrared lasers.
This material is a direct band gap semiconductor at approximately 1.4 to 2.2 eV. This material has the lowest thermal conductivity of all semiconductors so radiation detectors using this material can operate in photoconductive mode at room temperature without cooling unlike other similar detector materials.
