Lorad scientists have developed a synthesis procedure for a superior quality strontium sulfide powder for phosphor applications, including a material activated for x-ray screens and, as a Europium activated Strontium Sulfide-Calcium Sulfide phosphor, ( CaxSr1-xS:Eu ) for LED aplications.
One of the most important aspects of this work is the availability of alkaline - earth sulfides with an average particle size less than 5 microns without the necessity for particle size reduction, which always sigificantly reduces the phosphor efficiency even with a post-sizing annealing process. Clearly, this also avoids the need for a harmful (to materials efficiency) and costly (time consuming & wasteful of material) process of fractionation from a liquid support phase.
