About Cadmium
Cadmium is a metal with atomic number 48 that predominantly forms compounds in the +2 oxidation state. Cadmium telluride is used in photovoltaic devices, and cadmium tungstate is a scintillator for radiation detection. Cadmium has also been used in rechargeable batteries and pigments, although its toxicity imposes important limits on handling and disposal.
