Cerium

Atomic No. 58 Ce Cerium

About Cerium

Cerium is a lanthanide with atomic number 58 that readily forms compounds in both the +3 and +4 oxidation states. Cerium oxide is used to polish optical glass, and cerium zirconium oxides store and release oxygen in automotive catalyst formulations. Cerium ions also act as luminescent activators in materials such as lanthanum bromide scintillators.
