About Iodine
Iodine is a halogen with atomic number 53 that forms a dark solid under ordinary conditions. Its iodide compounds include thallium activated sodium iodide and activated cesium iodide, which convert absorbed radiation into light in scintillation detectors. Iodine chemistry is also used in polarizing films for liquid crystal displays and in chemical synthesis.
