About Samarium
Samarium is a lanthanide with atomic number 62 that forms compounds in the +3 and, under suitable conditions, +2 oxidation states. Samarium cobalt alloys form permanent magnets that retain useful performance at elevated temperatures. Samarium compounds are also used in infrared absorbing glass, optical materials and neutron absorbing systems.
