About Silver

Silver is a metal with atomic number 47 that generally forms compounds in the +1 oxidation state. Its high electrical conductivity supports contacts, conductive coatings and electronic assemblies, while silver halides provide photosensitive materials. Silver vanadium oxide is an established cathode material in specialized lithium batteries, including batteries designed to deliver the power pulses required by implantable cardiac defibrillators. Silver activated zinc sulfide, ZnS, is a scintillator used for alpha particle detection and, when combined with suitable neutron converting materials, neutron detection.
